What is a vaporizer and how does it work?

A cannabis vaporizer heats the material instead of burning it. The difference between heating and combustion changes the substances produced and inhaled, making cannabis inhalation less harmful but not risk-free.

How Is It Different from Smoking?

Smoking involves combustion and produces smoke containing combustion by-products. Cannabis vaporization does not involve the same combustion. Health authorities state that vaporizing cannabis may be less harmful to the lungs than smoking cannabis, but research on long-term health outcomes is limited.

Efficiency and Effects

Using a vaporizer is generally more efficient for users, but the effects may vary depending on the person, substance, or device. The temperature, raw material, device, and method of use can affect vaporization and the experience. It is also not possible to guarantee “the same effect” or the absence of lung irritation.

Responsible Use

Cannabis can impair concentration, reaction time, and driving ability. Do not drive, operate machinery, or engage in hazardous activities after use. For people who do not use cannabis, starting to use it is not a harm-reduction measure. Unusual respiratory symptoms, chest pain, or persistent feelings of illness require stopping use and seeking medical attention.
